@persephone I think they’re talking about an actual game. Ours did one called red light green light. You’re not supposed to lay down tho. When the say red you’re just supposed to freeze in place until they said green.

I love skaing backwards. In the 70s and 80s it was big and nobody whined about it. Infact most rinks would have people skate backwards for a couple of songs each

To be fair, most kids are just learning. Yes it’s annoying but at least they’re out skating/blading and learning it.

8 : Don’t swerve through people at high speeds. I once fell back because someone swerved through me and my friends. Was not a fun night. At all. Had to sit out the rest of the time. If you’re going at high speeds, swerve a couple feet back
9: Don’t fall backwards when you’re purposefully falling. You’re gonna have to get used to falling on your knees. Please. I almost rammed into a kid and dropped on my knees literally a foot away from her, usually people just forcibly fall back but it’s a lot safer to fall on your knees if you’re about to run into anyone.
10: DONT PUT YOUR KIDS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RINK AND FUCKING LEAVE THEM AND THEN GET MAD WHEN THEY FALL OR SOMEONE REMOVES THEM FROM THE RINK AND BRINGS THEM TO STAFF.
I concur with some other folks about number 8 (And 9 too, sometimes you should practice falling on your butt!). For those of us who live in cold, snowy climates, where snow and/or salt covers many of our outdoor skating surfaces, indoors rinks are where I go to enjoy my inlines and speed skate. Unfortunately, most inexperienced skaters don’t follow the rule of “slow to the left” or go in the middle, and I have no choice but to swerve. I understand everyone needs to start somewhere, but if you can’t follow directions -that are loudly announced a thousand times by the DJ- for slow skaters to go on the inside so us fast quad or inline folks can cruise our way around the rink, you will experience the swerve! That being said, I wear my slower quads when the rink is busy, and then as the crowd thins I put on my blades.

You can pick up dirt and small gravel outside. The your wheels bring it inside to dirty pr potentially damage the wood floor.
That’s a sh!tty attitude to have. Maybe have some respect for other people and their hard work and money. By all means, skate outside with YOUR skates, but coming in and out *could* ruin their expensive floors.

and dont hold hands 😭 there was this group of friends who were all holding hands and they were beginners, so when one of them fell almost all of them fell
Its so annoying they all do that they should have a room for beginners or alot of friends
I can confirm my dummass was holding another friend’s hand and all hell went lose so we both sat it out until we left
i had to hold my friends hand to help them balance bc they’re new skaters😭but as soon as i saw them start to fall i either pulled them up or let go💀
I’ll listen to 6 of these, in my hometown skating rink, the staff love to talk to you and would love to give you tips. every conversation is like a side quest
and follow the flow of everyone, if they’re going clockwise, don’t go the other way, there are often signs telling you which way to go, don’t ignore them, it’s annoying and dangerous
Another rule to add. Do Not be on your phone while skating. Was helping my son skate and a teen about my height was too busy paying attention to his phone and crashed right into us. Thankfully his phone broke after falling so he wasn’t able to continue playing on it.
