Should You Side Hustle or Just Work More to Make Money? #shorts

Which makes you more money, starting a side hustle or working more at your job? I argue with a personal finance friend about how to make money with a side hustle or if it's better to put in more hours at work. Who do you agree with?

What do you think? Should you start a side hustle or work more? Our points:
One reason I like having a side hustle is that you can work on your side hustle whenever you want to whether it’s early in the morning before work, after work or even on the weekends .

Work more at your job, you’re going to get those raises and promotions faster.

There’s no ceiling on the amount of money you can make.

Working more hours at your job means you’re definitely going to get paid. There’s no guarantees with side hustles.

With side hustles, you are in charge of what you make. The harder you go, the more amount of money you can make.

You’re already good at your job, why learn something new with a new side hustle?

If you have a side hustle and you hate it, you can always start a new one.

Side hustles are hard work and it’s a lot of risk. If you don’t work well, you don’t get paid.

    1. @Cristy Hernan exactly, you just get more work handed to you and no raise. They say if you want a raise, find a new employer. Literally work smarter not harder.

  1. Many companies (especially office jobs) dont offer overtime and if you broach the subject, your boss just points to salary allowances. Side hustles for life.

  2. It’s not about working more it’s about getting better at your job. Read a book, take a class, become better than your peers, take on more responsibility (not just more work)

  3. My side hustle is a couple ATM long ICs on SPX with 2 DTE. It’s worked out pretty nicely so far. 😉

  4. Work more at your job, good. You get more tasks and marginal rates. When you get the promotions, you enter the next tax bracket. It’s amazing the difference between how much raise you get Gross and how much you end up with Net. And the extra headache you get most times don’t correlate with the raise. But one good thing is, at least you get that raise barely working extra hours.

  5. For those who are still in the workforce; keep working, and add your side hustle on the weekends or part of your spare time so you can still have time for family and when you get to a certain point in your investment, then you can start thinking about not working anymore.

  6. I suggest reading the book, the intelligent investor by Benjamin Graham. To tell you the truth it is the most boring book I have ever read yet. Um, on my second read.

  7. work more at work and at your side job. i get bonuses every month and its still not enough

  8. Thinking your time as an investment allocations, then it’s smarter to diversify.
Getting better at your ‘profession’ often won’t give you any raises or promotions, but getting good at ‘job at your work’ do; however, being good at ‘job at your work’ and its bureaucratic knowledge won’t help you get new position once you are let go.
I think we should put in effort while we have return for it, just like an investment.
